People think of Park City as a ski town, and it is. But the town has a whole second life that has nothing to do with chairlifts. Maybe you do not ski. Maybe your group skied all morning and wants something else by afternoon. Maybe it is summer and the snow is long gone. Either way, there are plenty of things to do in Park City once you step away from the slopes.
Here is how to fill a day in town without ever clicking into a binding.
Main Street & the Town Itself
The heart of Park City runs right down Main Street, and you can spend hours there without a plan.
Walking Main Street
Old Main Street keeps its mining-town bones, with brick buildings now full of shops, galleries, and restaurants. You can wander from one end to the other, duck into a coffee shop, browse art, and watch the town move. During festivals the street fills with people, but on a normal day it stays calm enough to enjoy at a slow pace.
Museums & Galleries
The Park City Museum walks you through the town’s silver-mining past, including an old jail in the basement that kids love. Up and down Main Street, galleries show work from local and regional artists, and a lot of them are happy to let you browse with no pressure to buy. It is an easy way to spend a cold afternoon indoors.
Get Outside Without Skis
Snow or no snow, the hills around town give you ways to move.
Trails for Hiking & Biking
Once the snow clears, Park City turns into one of the best trail towns around. Hundreds of miles of paths run right from town, ranging from flat walks to climbs that earn you a view. Bikes rule the summer here, and you can rent one in town and be on a trail in minutes. In winter, the same idea works on snowshoes or cross-country skis if you want the quiet version.
The Mountain Coaster & Alpine Slides
In the warmer months, the resorts run mountain coasters and alpine slides that send you down the hill on a track at your own speed. They are built for families, but plenty of adults ride them twice. It is the easy thrill version of the mountain, no lift ticket or lessons required, and a good way to feel the slope without skis on your feet.
The Utah Olympic Park
Built for the 2002 Games, the Olympic Park still runs. You can watch athletes train on the jumps, ride a bobsled down the track with a pro driver, fly down a zip line, or tour the museum. It is a rare chance to stand where Olympians compete, and the bobsled ride is the kind of thing people talk about for years.
Warm Up & Wind Down
After a day in the cold, the town knows how to help you recover.
Hot Springs & Spas
Just down the road in Midway, the Homestead Crater holds a warm mineral spring inside a rock dome. You can soak, swim, or scuba dive in water that stays warm all year. Back in town, the resorts and hotels run spas if you would rather have a massage and a quiet hour by a fire.
Food & Drink
Park City eats well for a town its size. Main Street holds everything from quick bites to long dinners, and the local breweries and distilleries give you somewhere to land at the end of the day. If you are with a group, the bigger restaurants take reservations for parties, and a few spots do private rooms for events. Sunday brunch is a quiet favorite once the morning skiers head out. Reservations help on weekends and during ski season, so call ahead if you have your heart set on a spot.
Getting Around Town
Park City is walkable in the center, but the spread of resorts, Midway, and the trailheads means you will want a ride for some of it. Parking near Main Street fills up fast, and the canyon road in from Salt Lake gets slick in winter. A chauffeur service like Altitude Transportation takes that part off your plate, moving a group between the airport, the hotel, Main Street, and the spots out in the valley without anyone driving icy roads or hunting for a space. If your group skied all day and wants to head out at night, having a driver means nobody has to choose between a drink and the wheel.
Make a Day of It
Park City rewards people who treat it as more than a ski hill. Spend a morning on Main Street, an afternoon on a trail or a bobsled, and an evening soaking and eating, and you will have seen a side of the town that most day skiers miss. The lifts are great, but the things to do in Park City stack up just as high once they stop spinning. Plan a little, leave room to wander, and let the town show you the rest.
